Compaq Armada 1100 Series laptop:
How to remove the Hard Drive

1.Turn the computer over. and remove the seven keyboard screws

With your Armada turned off, all cables disconnected from it, and the battery removed, turn it
over on a flat, stable surface so that the bottom of the computer is facing you and the labels are to your right.

Using a small slot screwdriver, remove the seven screws which hold the keyboard/cover in
place (Figure 1). These seven screws are all marked on the back of the computer with arrows.

2. Remove the keyboard/cover

Turn your Armada back over onto it’s bottom, open the screen, and lower the rear feet. As shown
in Figure 2, lift the edge of the keyboard/cover closest to the screen on both sides of the computer
(left & right). Lift the cover, tilting it towards you to unlatch it from the front of the computer and lift it off.

3. Remove the drive from the computer

Use a small slot screwdriver to remove the screw retaining the drive as shown in Figure 3. Slide the
drive slightly towards you to disconnect it from the connector in the computer. Lift the drive from the
computer.

Attempts by IT guy - not successful; says hardware problem. IO error. He did take apart the case.

Thank you so much!!! I am really frilled by your outstanding services! My highly recommendations to anyone in need of fixing this kind of disaster I'd gone through. Superb!!!

From Barrett Duan Madison, Wisconsin USA: Toshiba MK8026GAX laptop - There was no noising or clicking before the hard drive was dead. It was dead after leaving the computer on for a night when it was downloading. Tried running disk utility a couple time, but it failed and it said the hard-disk was unmounted. Trying to connect to another Mac computer and function as an external hard-disk, but it was not detected by the other Mac computer. The hard-drive is still under warranty, so I hope the hard-drive can be returned to me in good condition, assembled, no missing parts, no damaged labels, no dents, no dings or scratches, according to Toshiba I hope the data can be recovered.

Thanks for recovering my data! It's really appreciated.
Barrett

From NCR CANADA LTD Denis B. Waterloo, ON Canada: Western Digital WD1600BEAE 160 Gb laptop - The failed hard drive is producing very clicking noise.
