Failure Symptoms: The drive has a noisy bearing resulting in the operating system NOT being able to see the Hard Drive as a D Drive in another PC. It was booting in Windows XP just prior to the failure but it takes a LONG time to boot if it boots at all. When the drive is made a D Drive, it may actually fail due to the speed of the motor slowing down as the bearings heat up and increase the friction.

SYSTEM READS NOT HARD DRIVE DETECTED ....N SPINING SOUND OR CLICKING NOISE HEARD. DRIVE WAS SENT FOR EST. TO A RECOVERY SERVICE NO WORK DONE TO DRIVE JUST INITAL EST.

Dropped notebook; battery discharged due to bad power cable (both in the same night). After recharge the system worked for a few hours. Attempted to load QuickBooks, but system locked and went to "blue screen." Would not boot up after that. Makes small clicking sound.

Not powering on at all. Computer gave me a blue screen, then after a couple of restarts, computer made a loud squeaking stopping noise. Turned it off, restarted and did it again. Took it to a local tech and said he could no recover data. He said that I will need to be taken to a clean room.
