Maxtor 4W100HG 100GB SATA Data recovered and delivered on spare HDD.

Computer crashed while I was using web browser, then computer would not reboot. It hung up on an error message saying that some file in Windows was missing. Could not get restarted.
Took computer to CompUSA. They tried to save my data, but could not, I had them install new hard drive and give me the old one back.

1. Only W98 was working
2. Clicking noise (happened before without anything bad happening)
3. At computer start-up got the message "no operating system found"
4. Any other attempt to restart the computer had lead to the same message.
5. Removed the drive and connected to USB port via NexStar external HD enclosure - not seen by other computer as an USB device.
6. Packed in 6 zip bags and put in the freezer for 10h. Re-tried to retrieve data - no success
7. Open HD for a bit (good, clean environment) to see if I there is something loose. Nothing suspect and enclosed back.
8. No software or firmware recovery attempt

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80 GB SATA Data recovered and delivered on DVD's.

I was copying a source tree and the PC got really slow. DOS prompts took over 30 seconds to start. I ran a virus scanner to look for a possible culprit. Then I rebooted and I go a drive not mountable error on the blue screen. Turing off the PC and waited a few minutes. The PC started up again (I ran in safe mode).
I tried to lift off my data but I was getting I/O errors every minute or so.
